The studio has been humming lately. Our usual pursuits have been abandoned to log some serious face time with foraged wild persimmons and dahlias from Frances' garden. My friend Siri has been helping here a lot, and along with Kait, they keep me together. Siri always wears stripes to work and impractically stylish clog heels. I always wear the same thing I wore yesterday. Consistency- it's key.

The studio is now full of dirty vases, at least 30 of them. About 6 old coffee cups. A deflated air-mattress. Just laying down for a minute turns into your intern arriving on her first day to find you face down, asleep at 2pm because you've been working since 6 in the blink of an eye so it's best just to not even go there.
This bouquet is from last weekend, a little in size but big in spirit wedding that was spun from a Gilded Age, mahogany lacquered library on 5th Ave. There were 3 tables. 30 feet of hydrangea garland. 300 votives. A mega-massive flower and dripping candlewax taper extravaganza at the bar. Going back after midnight to clean up the party was devastating. Being both the maker and the destroyer could keep a girl up at night. Good thing that it's impossible to keep your eyes open from sheer exhaustion on the drive back home. At a red light on 14th street, I had to beg a chinese fire-drill because I couldn't physically drive another block. A handful of flowers came up to the apartment and Michael put them in a vase while I passed out.

I wish I could live in your photographs... they are awe-inspiring!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you're getting super over-worked, however! Take a little bit of time for yourself and get some rest!!! You deserve it!
♥
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. Consistency is indeed key!
ReplyDeleteyour work is amazing. I was wondering what the pink flower is with all the layers? I am in love with it.
ReplyDeleteI imagine Amy is probably exhausted and passed out somewhere, so I will give this a try (the flowers, vines, berries and pods are all so gorgeous) the pink flower I believe you are referencing is most likely the ranunculus! Look them up, they come in an assortment of delicious colors and are relatives to the sweet buttercup! Another similar flower would be the David Austin rose, zinnia's are very pretty and hardy as well. In another lifetime I did floral design and I miss it but remember the exhaustion and stress as well as customer's delight, and mine upon completion of a daunting event. I now am doing something much less stressful, investigations!) lol. Well I must say I am delighting and reveling in the gorgeous flowers and work that Amy does and thank you for sharing it with us Amy, as I will follow your work...it soothes my soul -I can smell the floral bouquet just looking at the photos!) heavenly!
DeleteOh yes I forgot there are dahlias as well, which are always gorgeous!
DeleteIt's a garden rose from Garden Valley Ranch :)

Hi there! I will be looking forward to visit your page again and for your other posts as well. Thank you for sharing your thoughts about flower delivery. I am glad to stop by your site and know more about flower delivery. Keep it up! This is a good read. You have such an interesting and informative page. You also have a very good choice of flowers and a very good flower arrangements.
ReplyDeleteGenerally, a florist's shop will contain a large array of flowers, sometimes displayed on the street, or will have a large plate glass window to display the flowers. To keep them fresh, the flowers will be inside of a cooler and kept in water, generally in glass or plastic vases or other containers. Most shops have a cooler near the front of the store with large glass doors so that customers can easily view the contents. Some shops also have another cooler out of the customers' view where they keep extra stock and arrangements for customers' orders. Most stores have a back section in which the designers can work on orders with more privacy.
Same-day delivery available.

Gorgeous, as always. And the exhaustion... all too familiar.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous images as usual...I love the third from bottom, not sure what they are, but they look like miniature apples...very autumnal. Thanks for sharing. Sharon
ReplyDeleteDecoration is looking awesome !!! Melbourne florist
ReplyDeleteConsistently gorgeous- that's what I think!
ReplyDeleteI think I understand a bit about how exhausted you were...I used to be a flight attendant on long-haul international flights. If the photographs are any indication, however, your artistry for the wedding was magnificent. The dahlias and wild persimmons--so uniquely lovely together. Did you get a photo of the 30-foot hydrangea garland? I hope you had a long, deep sleep when this job was over. Best regards, Leslie from Portland, Oregon
ReplyDeleteI got a few, but I am waiting to see the bride's official photos!
DeleteA hydrangea garland? Be still my heart!
ReplyDeleteYour studio looks like a million dreams come true. I always adore your photographs.
